Hi Everyone... here is what happened this  morning:

This morning we had no visiting Rotarians  and we had two guests--Jack Matlock, guest of  Jeanne and Mike Lyner guest of Nancy.

Bob had a prior commitment  so  Jason Hanlon  presided and opened the meeting with a few announcements :

The  annual Holiday Party will be December 3rd from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm at The Lakes at Stillwater.  NO morning meeting that day.

The Club Service Project will be Meals from the Heart, Tuesday December 10th. 6:45 am to 8:00 am.

Give  to the Max Day is Thursday November 14th so think about donating to the Foundation that day in particular.

The School Board is recognizing the great work that David Waldschmidt and his team are doing with the  Media Center and Reading Program at Rutherford and Stonebridge Elementary schools at 6pm this Thursday at City Hall.  Nice job to all involved!

Believe it or ... the Brewers Bazaar Pre- Planning meeting will be scheduled hopefully for next week.

There was also a reminder to bring  four $1 bills on November 26th...2 for Lonny's Foundation Challenge, 1 for the raffle and 1 for the Sergeant at Arms.

Ted Nesse told us that he added a Resource Catalog on our website with a data base for our members to share something they have that other Rotarians can take advantage of...like for instance Del has a saw that can cut through concrete ( I think I got that right) and Ted has a lot of cut up wood that someone might like to have for their fire ring.
Check it out--we're networking!

Kris Bowditch told us that she is part owner of a tree farm in Wisconsin and would be happy to take pre-orders for Christmas trees and deliver them to your door.  Check your email--Kris has sent an email with all of the details including prices, order dates and delivery dates...what a deal.

During the Sergeant at Arms portion of the program Lynda Halpert shared that she is now a grandma for the third time with a bouncing baby boy named Theo.  Congrats Lynda.  Also Rick was able to collect quite a few dollars from Gopher fans who were happily donating $9 for the 9-0 Gophers--go Gophers!

Our speaker today was  Dr. Lee E Frelich who is a professor at the University of Minnesota and the Director for the Center for Forest Ecology.  His topic was how climate change is impacting Minnesota and what  about alternative futures for us.   He began by explaining how carbon dioxide is being emitted into the atmosphere and how that is changing the climate around the world.  It's nothing new that  carbon dioxide is being emitted but emission has increased due to excessive fossil fuel burning resulting in deforestation and huge changes in the atmosphere and oceans.  He told us that climate change is not a new idea and that  there is scientific evidence dating back 200 years to prove it.  He also debunked the myth that the sun impacts global warming which it does not and most definitely climate and weather are two different things.  Winters are warming more than any other season since 1970.  The summer is warming also, allergy season is longer and there are more heavy rain events causing  floods.  Dr. Frelich told us  that in the past mass extinctions  have resulted from volcanoes and ocean acidification and loss of oxygen  but today humans are the volcanoes causing mass extinctions.  Some tipping points today would be for instance huge ice melts and loss of forests due to climate change.  The variety of trees change, vegetation changes and wildlife changes as well.  What can we do now to  reduce carbon dioxide emissions?  Create and use more fuel efficient cars and houses, plant more trees and eat more plants .

Next week our speaker will be Jeanne Matlock and her topic will be the Friendship Exchange trip to South Africa.  Margie Horning will host.

At the end of the meeting Jason Hanlon  wished us all a good day.
