Hi Everyone... here is what happened this  morning:

This morning we had no visiting Rotarians, but we did have two guests.  Jack Matlock was the guest of Jeanne Matlock and Chris Wulfing was the guest of Jon Stillman.

Bob opened the meeting with a few announcements :

The Halloween Parade at Boutwell's Landing will be on Wednesday October 23rd.  A sign up sheet was passed around.

The District 5960 One Rotary Summit will be at Family Means on Saturday October 26th

Ed Boeve announced that Rake a Difference will be on Saturday October 26th at 306 Darrel Court, Stillwater.

Mary Parcheta  asked us to remember to bring items for the Teen Drop In Center.  With winter coming soon, she asked that if anyone has gently used boots to donate that would be greatly appreciated.  Also welcome  are hotel sized shampoos.

The Rotary Foundation Dinner will be held on Saturday November 2nd.  Lonny Stormo send around a sign up sheet for those who are planning to attend.

The Rotarian in the Spotlight today was Rick Robbins .  This is the portion of the meeting where we find out something about a Club member we previously did not know.  Today we found out that Rick is NOT a second cousin of Tim Robbins the actor.  We did find out that Rick was an Indiana all state academic high school basketball player and even more impressive... he helped design the international symbol for diaper changing!  So whenever you are in a public restroom and see a baby station with the figure of a mother leaning over and changing her baby's diaper you can thank Rick for that symbol!.

During the Sergeant at Arms portion of the meeting Dave Spencer very generously gave $101 in honor of Bob Rupp's upcoming 101st birthday...quite the milestone!

Our speaker this morning was  Jon Stillman who gave us  a very detailed  Annual Polio Plus Presentation.  The following is the Readers Digest version...Jon began by telling us that in 1952 there were 58,000 cases of polio in the United States.  In 1954/1955  Jonas Salk and Albert Sabin developed a  polio vaccine that over the years evolved from the injectable type to the oral type that is widely used today.  In 1979 small pox was eradicated and it was shortly after that in 1984 that  Rotary decided they would work diligently to eradicate  polio only to be rebuffed by the World Health Organization.  Despite that rebuff, in 1985 Rotary pledged to raise $120 million to eradicate polio.  At the upcoming Philadelphia Rotary Convention it was disclosed that $240 million had been raised.   To date 3 billion kids have been immunized. Rotary must raise $50 million every year to continue immunizing children and the Melinda and Bill Gates Foundation will double that.  The Legacy of Rotary regarding polio is threefold...make history by eradicating polio, improve international health with 145 labs around the world and to have service organizational potential.  At the end of Jon's presentation he introduced his guest , Chris Wulfing.  Chris, some of you might recall, was the winner of the Treasure Chest from the Brewers' Bazaar.  He very generously on the spot gave the money back to Rotary to help in the fight against polio. He feels that it is our responsibility to look after not only our own children, but all the children of the world. He was awarded a certificate for his selfless donation and also a Paul Harris Fellowship and he is now a Paul Harris Fellow.

Next week our speaker will be in absentia...Raina Fox, a Peace Fellow has a Peace and Conflict Resolution Video for us to see.  Craig Leiser will be her host.

At the end of the meeting Bob Gray wished us all a good day.
