Hi Everyone... here is what happened this  morning:

This morning we had no visiting Rotarians but we did welcome our own Dan Schmid as our guest.

Bob Gray opened the meeting with a few announcements :

Jon Stillman gave us an update on Bob Rupp who is now 101 years old.  Bob has fallen  a few times lately and ended up at Regions where a stent was put into his carotid artery .  He is expected to be home soon and on the road to recovery.  If you are able to help with rides etc. please contact Jon Stillman.

Wendy Heck told us that there are two students who will be outbound Exchange students this coming year.  She also challenged us, as a member of the Climate Change Committee, to obtain at least one reusable shopping bag and use it at least once in December.

We also were happy to give a monetary Holiday thank you to the staff of the Lowell Inn for all the good service they have given to us.  A big thank you to Eddie, Crystal and Suprina.

Our next meeting will be January 7, 2020 .  The next two Tuesdays are Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.

During the Sergeant at Arms portion of the meeting Nancy Lyner joyfully told us she will be retiring at the end of the year, Steve Madson will be going to Italy to  bring back his daughter who has been enjoying time in Europe, Kris Bowditch will be going to Pasadena to attend the Rose Bowl, and someone else is traveling to some place really nice and warm but, alas , I didn't hear who it was...mia culpa.   On the celebratory side, Ed Boeve is celebrating 46 years of marriage and yours truly is celebrating 41 years of married bliss.  And...the incomparable John Lennes  announced the annual Swedish Dinner that will be held in January up in Marine as only he could.  He made it clear that no Swedes will be eaten during the dinner so that was good to hear!

Our speaker today was Heather Logelin who is the president of the St. Croix Valley Foundation.  She is also a Rotarian who was active in the River Falls Club  but now lives in Hudson and is planning on joining the Hudson Daybreak Club.  She spoke to us about how important it is to invest in the SCVF so that the quality of life in the St Croix Valley will be enhanced.  This organization is comprised of 6 counties with 10 Affiliated Foundations, one of which is the Stillwater Foundation.  The 6 counties are on either side of the river...Chisago and Washington in Minnesota and Burnet, Polk, St. Croix and Pierce in Wisconsin.  The river unites rather than divides.  Basically the SCVF has three main goals. First is to encourage charitable giving resulting in  philanthropic leadership (donors) who can make it easy to invest in causes they care most about.  The second is to connect people with programs so that there will be impactful grant making.  There can be donor advised grants ( single donor), competitive grants ( music and arts or example) and scholarships.    The final goal is to encourage collaboration, form partnerships and provide servant leadership.  There are many challenges facing our region not the least of which is affordable housing.  To that end the SCVF is undertaking a Capital Campaign to raise unrestricted money for the cause.  Jim Bradshaw and David Palmer from the Noon Club are chairs for that endeavor.  You can visit their website...www.scvfoundation.org  for more information.  To learn more about how the SCVF can support your unique and personal philanthropic goals, contact Heather Logelin at hloeglin@scvfoundation.org or 715-386-9490.

See you next year January 7 where our speaker will be Selena Freimark whose topic will be Death Cafes. Mel Sullivan will be the host.

At the end of the meeting Bob Gray  wished us all a good day.

Drive safely everyone if you are traveling this holiday season and enjoy this wonderful time of the year!
Peace and joy...Janis
