Hi Everyone... here is what happened this  morning:

This morning we had no visiting Rotarians and no guests.

Bob opened the meeting with a few announcements :

The Rotary Foundation Dinner will be held on Saturday November 2nd.

Jon Stillman announced that there will be an Immunization against polio in India from January 10-21, 2020 and if interested in going, please see him.

Mark Fisher is getting a press release ready regarding the Halloween Event and would appreciate any pictures you might have taken there.  Pass them along to Mark.
Margie reported that the event was a huge success with a record number of kiddos present--605--plus 175 seniors.

The Rotarian in the Spotlight today was Kris Bowditch .  This is the portion of the meeting where we find out something about a Club member we previously did not know.  Today we found out that Kris is part owner of a 200 acre farm in Wisconsin that has over 15,000 Christmas trees.  She also held her high school 400 meter school record for many years.  She does NOT have over 30 varieties of hostas in her garden--only 20 varieties.

Our speaker this morning was Raina Fox who is a Rotary Peace Fellow and gave us  her reflections on her journey to becoming a Peace Fellow.   To become accepted as a Peace Fellow one must have completed an undergraduate degree and desire to attain a masters degree in peace and conflict resolution.   Her journey started when she met Craig Leiser and  he began to help her with her application for this very competitive program.  After one rejection, Raina reapplied and was accepted into the program.  She went to the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia to do her studies.  Raina's  main interests revolve around social justice issues including arts for social change, memory and dialogue and organizations for social justice.  She  was required to do applied field experience which she did in Jordan with the United Nations Development Program in the Arab States.  She spoke at various events while  representing  Rotary and had many wonderful experiences and plans to continue in that vein in the future. She even spoke at the Rotary International Convention at Hamburg and now has friends all around the world.  So the young girl from Mendota Heights has expanded her world view due in great measure to Rotary.  At present Raina is in the process of looking for a job and will be re-locating to Boston with a major interest in Labor Justice.  She could not thank Rotary enough for all the wonderful opportunities she has had and will continue to have in the future.  Good job Raina!

Next week our speaker will be Jenny Mason who will speak to us about Homelessness in Washington County.  Kris Bowditch will host.

At the end of the meeting Bob Gray wished us all a good day.
