Hi Everyone... here is what happened this  morning:

This morning we did not have any visiting Rotarians nor did we have any guests.

Bob opened the meeting with a few announcements :

Lonny Stormo, our Foundation spokesperson was delighted to present Mark Lambert with his Paul Harris plus 8 pin and  Roger Ruetten with his Paul Harris plus 2 pin.  Congrats to them both and a big THANK YOU for so generously supporting the Foundation and all the good work they do.

Stillwater Noon Club's 100 Year Anniversary Celebration is on Thursday Oct.10th and will be a the JX Event Center.  Suzanne Torseth encouraged us to attend .  If you plan to go, please get in touch with her and she can reserve a table.  If we fill a table ( 8 seats) the cost will be $50 per person.  If you walk in the ticket will cost $100.

Mary Parcheta reminded us to bring items for the Drop In Center on the first Tuesday of each month.

The Halloween Parade at Boutwell's Landing will be on Wednesday October 23rd.

The District 5960 One Rotary Summit will be at Family Means on Saturday October 26th

Ed Boeve announced that Rake a Difference will be on Saturday October 26th...details to follow.

Mark Lambert sent around a sign up sheet for Roadside Clean Up which will be on October 5th which is Saturday.

The Rotary Foundation Dinner will be held on Saturday November 2nd...details to follow.

The Rotarian in the Spotlight today was Dave Spencer.  This is the portion of the meeting where we learn something about our fellow Rotarians which we previously did not know.  Today we learned that Dave was an All American Defensive End for the National Association of Interscholastic Athletes (NAIA) in 1964, He also met Zsa Zsa Gabor at a Washington DC Hotel in 1986, but he did NOT take second place at cow judging at the Montana State Fair in 1961 despite growing up in Montana.  Needless to say everyone wanted to hear about Zsa Zsa Gabor and the DC Hotel meeting, but Dave, being the gentleman that he is, kept his silence .

Rick Robbins, our Sergeant at Arms, accepted lots of dollars this morning for multiple October birthdays and a few anniversaries.  Paula Williams has been married for 22 years.  Lynda Halpert also is having a wedding anniversary but kept the number of years to herself.

And here is a newsflash for the Club---Mark Lampert told us  that he previously purchased some land on the southeast corner of Highway 36 and Manning Avenue and has been negotiating with the powers that be and he was happy to tell us that an HyVee  will be built  there in either 2021 or 2022.  Big Congrats to Mark!

Our speaker this morning was Peter Greene who was representing River Valley Charities whose purpose is to raise money and awareness for the many hungry children in the St. Croix Valley specifically in Wisconsin.  He and his wife became aware of the large number of children in the Hudson School District who  do not have enough food to eat and even though Back Pack programs exist,  many times they do not sustain children for the entire weekend.  Consequently the kids  come back to school on Monday morning feeling very hungry.  Goals for River Valley Charities are fourfold: confront the problem of hunger, provide nutrition such as fresh fruit and vegetables, raise awareness of the problem, seek collaboration  and do some big time fundraising.  The Golf Outing at Troy Burne which takes place in August is a major event where  participants are encourage to bring back packs and canned goods.  Funding is also achieved through Corporate Partnerships.  River Valley Charities then is able to write  checks to schools in order to keep their back pack programs going when school funds get low.  They are also exploring developing relationships with the YMCA and  Camp St. Croix in an effort to grow fruits and vegetables.  That will be a future endeavor  that hopefully will become reality in 3 years or so.  If you would like to know more about this very worthwhile group please visit www.rivervalleycharities.com .

Next week our speaker will be Tom Howe who is the Ponies Head Coach for  Lacrosse and his topic will be the history of the game.  Barbara Tischart will host.

At the end of the meeting Bob Gray wished us all a good day.
