Club News

The crowd may have been a bit smaller this year, but the 14th Annual Brewers & Bourbon Bazaar did not disappoint. In fact, we may have had our most diverse line up of brewers and distillers ever aboard the Avalon river boat: Lift Bridge, Bent Brewstillery, Joseph Wolf, Hop & Barrel, Lucky Guys, Forge & Foundry, Brick & Bourbon, La Dona Cerveceria, Spiral, Oliphant, 11 Wells Spirits, Lake Monster, Pyres and Surly. All of them brought their A-game with an awesome mix of delicious samples and excellent conversation.

In addition to all the beer and spirits, guests were entertained by the 50/50 raffle, the fabulous music of the Michael Handler Project and visiting with Rotarians to learn more about Rotary and all the good we do locally and internationally. We may have even recruited 1 or 2 to join our club.

And thank you to our generous sponsors and volunteers that helped make this club fundraiser possible.

We have some great pictures from this event in our album.

Thank you for attending the 14th Annual Brewers and Bourbon Bazaar hosted by Stillwater Sunrise Rotary. We hope you enjoyed the event as much as our Club and Brewers did.

52 attendees stopped at the Rotary Club booth to hear and see more about how our Club raises money and then the process to distribute it locally, regionally, and internationally to communities in need to continue doing good things in the world!

A special incentive for those booth attendees was a drawing to win $50-$75-$125 for correctly guessing how many lives Stillwater Sunrise Rotary club has impacted in the past year by doing good in the world. (25,428, year to date!)  Congratulation to our three winners.

After a year off, Stillwater's original beer tasting event is back! This awesome event was started in 2007 by the members of the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club as a way to raise money for our many service projects. We will once again be aboard the Avalon Riverboat overlooking the beautiful St. Croix River in historic downtown Stillwater on Saturday, October 2nd from 11:30am to 3:30pm. The boat does not leave the dock during the event giving attendees the flexibility to come and go as they need. Your ticket gets you a commemorative tasting glass, a food item and 4 hours to sample some of the best and newest regional beers and spirits poured directly from the brewers. Participants love the setting, the access to the brewers, the fellowship, the music and the cause. You can find more information and order tickets from BrewersBazaar.com.

Stillwater Sunrise Rotary spans the globe and joins with other Rotary clubs in Maryland, Minnesota and Niger to provide solar power to two schools in Niger!

As published in the Remember Niger Coalition (RNC) Summer Connection, the schools now have consistent power for computer labs and classrooms at the Niamey School for the Deaf and the Hamsa Girls Education Center. Donations like ours helped RNC expand their impact, enhance educational experiences for greater quality and equip students with the tools they need to transform their lives and communities. I think we can be proud to be Rotarians who are Serving to Change Lives!

Stillwater Sunrise Rotary is supporting a sustainable agroecology project in Peru. This global grant is one of the first grants to be approved by Rotary International using the newest area of focus - the environment.

About 300 families (1200 - 1500 people) in the Community of Hilloc, Peru will be benefiting from the community garden. They will grow food, nutrition and futures by using agroecology and sustainable agriculture practices. The project will involve supervision of planning and construction of greenhouses, and training in the best practices of planting the crops. The greenhouse projects are driven by some of the main principles of agroecology: responsible land stewardship, respect for local knowledge and profitable production. The project will improve food security and nutrition for these global neighbors.

You can see the pictures from our potluck picnic in the web album, here. We had over 25 attendees from both clubs, and wonderful food that everyone brought to share. The weather was perfect, and there was some cutthroat (well, casual, actually) horseshoes and bocce competition as well. The s'mores were a success too, as several had to go in to wash up after dessert. Click on "more" see Margie's perfect marshmallow.
