Ssr_2005_pin_logo1_small

Chartered on September 19, 1984, the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club has become the service organization of choice for those persons in the Stillwater area who wish to make an impact on the needs of the community, local or international, by exemplifying “Service Above Self” in an atmosphere of fun, friendship and satisfaction.

The mission of the Stillwater Sunrise Rotary Club is to encourage and demonstrate the ideals of service – leadership and personal commitment – which focus on addressing real community concerns and ensure that projects we undertake have relevance to and impact on our community. We act in unison among friends and with common goals: to improve the quality of life for all. We are also committed to supporting the programs of Rotary International and the Rotary Foundation to achieve world understanding and peace through international humanitarian, educational, and cultural exchange programs.

Outgoing President Orwin Carter hands-off the gavel to incoming President Ken McGinley

Thank You Orwin for a Great Year!

At Tuesday's meeting, Orwin reminisced about how Andy Haak got him to run and realized that it was a multi-year commitment. His friend Orv Johnson, from the noon Rotary told him it would be one of the best years of his life. With these words of advice, he passed the same thoughts unto Ken for his year. Ken thanked Orwin for everything and gave him a nice commemorative wooden box with words of thanks for the year that he gave in 2007-2008.

Beginning July 1st, Ken takes over as Club President.  Ken is honored to take on that responsibility and will work hard to continue the great tradition of our Club.

Health leaders reaffirm commitment to ending polio

Polio_6-18-08_small

Citing the dramatic decrease in type-1 polio cases in India as an indication that polio can be eradicated, Dr. Margaret Chan, director-general of the World Health Organization, announced on 18 June that WHO’s top operational priority is to rid the world of polio.

“This is the best opportunity to finish the job,” Chan said during a joint press conference at the 2008 RI Convention in Los Angeles. “We will be mobilizing within the organization to double our efforts on the ground.”

Also answering questions from the media were WHO’s partners in the global eradication initiative: Dr. Julie Gerberding, director of the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention; Ann Veneman, executive director of UNICEF; and Robert Scott, chair of The Rotary Foundation.
